Human Rights and the BNP

The manifesto for the British Nationalist Party has recently been released in the wake of the up and coming general election. Al Qaeda employ female suicide bombers

Female suicide bombers are now being employed by Al Qaeda. How will this affect the role of women in arab countries?
The telegraph states that the new suicide bombers are western looking women that will cause less suspicion in our heightened state of security.
Is it at all likely to change the opinion of women in the middle east? And how will this affect the West in this supposed 'war on terror'?

The first civil partnership at Westminster

Westminster has up until very recently refused ceremonies for same sex marriages due to the religious nature of the chapel, but the BBC announced at the end of march that an MP and his partner have become the first couple to enter a civil partnership within the walls of Westminster's chapel.
Is this another real step towards acceptance of civil marriages or is it 'too little too late'?
Civil partnerships have been legal in the UK since 2004.

Public access to UK torture guidelines

Gordon Brown has recently be accused of breaking a promise to publish torture guidelines for UK intelligence officers dealing with detainees abroad, states the Guardian. Are we entitled to know this information? And if so, how should it be controlled? Which is in control of framing these reports?
The article also reports concerns from the Foreign Office, stating that if we intend to continue relations with foreign security agencies, how do we deal with the lack of international standards on human rights issues?

Mayfesto at the Tron Theatre Coming soon!

Hi all!
Welcome to the Mayfesto blog where you will find up to date news, backstage ramblings and festival musings surrounding Glasgow's newest festival of theatre: Mayfesto!
With an issue based theme, Mayfesto brings you a collection of new writings during the month of May. Programmes are out and the box office is ready!
This blog has been in set up in conjunction with a soon to be live dedicated Facebook page as well as regular up dates on the Tron webpage. All followers are welcome and all discussed is encouraged so keep looking for up dates, new and maybe even a guest blogger every so often!
